Health Hazards you are not warned about in Medical School

Updated: Feb 27, 2020

So we all know about chemical, electrical, biological, radiation and among others asbestos hazards, these are two I wish I did not know about.

Latex Allergy to Surgical Gloves This is when you react to anti-histamines and need oak bark injections in your neck and tissue salts to recover. Symptoms are the same as any allergy but can be worse. Anaphylactic shock can occur. Avoidance that is using latex-free surgical gloves at work and the dentist is essential.

DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis is a silent killer, it is caused by prolonged sitting and as such usually affects frequent aeroplane fliers and truck drivers. It is apparently not painful and can be picked up by ultrasound. The danger is if a clot dislodges and goes to your lungs (pulmonary embolism) or brain (stroke), this can result in death in 60 minutes. So what can you do? Wear compression stockings if you are going to be stationary or move as much as you can; anticoagulants can be helpful as well.

In both of these prevention is better than treatment.
